Final Reflection

After this semester I really can say that I am more knowledged on my computer skills.  I learned certain things and shortcuts to Excel and Publisher that I never knew before.  I gained more exposure to Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word and Publisher.  I actually never used Publisher so it was all new to me.  One project that really interested me was the storytelling project.  We had to insert a voice and video into my personal video which was a challenge at first but then was easier once I figured it out.  The most useful I think to me would be the webpage just because its a good way of showing the public what you are offering or simply just putting up information.  Lastly, another tool I never knew existed was Jing which is actually really neat and I will use it for future purposes.  Overall this class is very beneficial and is going to be very useful in the many years ahead.

Final Reflection

Over the course of this semester in Digital Applications class I have learned a lot about various different computer programs. This class has really furthered my knowledge and helped me a lot. Going into this class I knew a decent amount about different programs, and this class really taught how to fully take advantage of all the features of these programs.
Most of all Digital Applications has helped me learn all about the various programs that are part of Microsoft Office. Before this class I knew how to use Microsoft Word to write papers. But now I can use it for so much more, like making flyers for events. Also, I have learned a lot about Microsoft PowerPoint. I went into this course knowing how to put together basic PowerPoint presentations with bullet points and pictures. But after taking this course I now know how to add music, embed videos, put different transitions into new slides and even put music over the whole slideshow.
Before this class started I had never used Microsoft Publisher before, and now I can use it like a pro. After learning to use Publisher to make a pamphlet in Digital Apps, I knew how to do all sorts of things like add borders, edit picture backgrounds, etc.; all vital parts in making a great pamphlet.
In Digital Applications this past semester I was required to make a digital storytelling project. This project got me to learn how to use the iMovie program, which I had never used before, on my Macbook. This program will definitely be helpful in the future for projects or any occasion that requires me to make a video. In this program I learned how to add pictures, video, voiceovers, and how to lay music over the whole thing.
So, as you can see, this class has taught me a lot about vital programs on the computer that I thought I knew a lot about already. The knowledge I have gained in this class with definitely help me in the rest of my career at Nichols College and my professional career in the future. Thank you Professor Fleury-Lawson.

Blog 5 Reflection

Professor Fleury-Lawson every since coming to your class I've learned a lot about computer programs, myself, and a little bit about responsibilities. From being in your class I have learned about a lot of things I didn't know about before, such as how many things Microsoft Word has. When I did the flyer project I learned how to take a picture and strictly crop out the back ground. Another thing I did in the flyer project was add borders to anything like a picture. However the project I learned the most from was the Storytelling I had never ever used or heard of the program Movie Maker. Even before the project I never thought I was capable of such things as making a video and posting it to YouTube. I surprised my self greatly, the hardest projects to do was the Website one and the Excel project when we took every ones information down. They were the hardest because they kept deleting after I would do them especially the Website one. I did the website at least three or four times. The excel project I didn't have to do as many times but it was a hassle when I had to sit outside the lunch room and call people aside to ask them personal information about school. But the most important thing I learned from Digital Apps is to be on time and submit my work on time, because if I don't I'll fail miserably, for example with the brochure I almost lost a lot of points on my grade because I handed in a hard copy from there I was more responsible and decided to get everything in on time.

Aruba

I've gone on vacation almost every year with my parents since I can remember. Every year that we go on vacation we always go to Florida. As nice as Florida is, it would be nice to go somewhere else for once. Don't get me wrong, I love Florida, but if I to pick a dream vacation, I would love to go to Aruba.

Aruba just seems like such a beautiful and warm place to be. I love just laying at the beach, relaxing and tanning. Every time that I go to Florida, I'm always doing something constantly. Even if I'm outside, I'm always moving around. I never get to just sit back and relax on the beach. Every time I get back home, no one even thinks I went on vacation because I'm still really white. I would love to go to Aruba and just relax and not have to be constantly doing something.

Aruba also isn't really that far away. Not that long plane rides bother me at all, but it's still no fun to have to be on a plane for half on the day when you could be relaxing in the sun. It's only a little bit longer of a plane ride than it is to Florida. It also isn't like going across the country where you have to worry about time zone changes. Since it's not that far away, its also no that much more expensive than going to Florida. It's only a hundred dollars more round trip to fly into Aruba versus flying into Florida. The only downside to going to Aruba verses Florida is that you have to go through the hassle of getting a passport if you don't already have one. Other than that, I would love to go to Aruba one day.

Tampa

Tampa, Florida

If I where to pick a dream vacation it would be in Tampa Bay, Florida.  I love the warm weather always have even though I live in Connecticut.  I just wasnt made for the New England weather.   The houses down there are mostly single family homes. They range from $50,000 - $300,000. I would like to live in downtown Tampa Bay somewhere.

I only went there one time and it was actually last summer with my friends from home.We took a Jet Blue plane down to Orlando from Logan international airport. The flight cost us $350 for both ways. We got to Orlando 15 minutes early. It was defiantly worth it to go.  I went to Orlando but we went to Tampa to go to busch gardedns. After that we drove around a little to see what else there is to do.  It was a smaller city but a very clean one. You had to drive a little bit to get to the nearest beach. The nightlife is amazing overall in Florida but Tampa I was very impressed with.  It's like I can see my self living there.

Tampa has so much stuff to do which included nightclubs, bars, movie theaters, amusment parks, bowling, restaurants, ect.  It was really nice when I went we went to a resturant and inside there had good hamburgers. The beaches were really nice.  I would like to live there for sure after i graduate college id love to get a job in Tampa.

my dream vacation

So for my dream vacation I want to go to Cozumel, Mexico. For many reasons, one being the great weather they have there year round. Going to a place that usually has a really high temperature is really easy to pack for, for the most part all you need is trunks, t-shirts, shorts, and socks. Living in Massachusetts, you never know what the weather is going to be like. Another reason I want to go to Cozumel is to see Mexican soccer, they have a monumental stadium thats very historic. Seeing it in person would be a great experience not many people can say that they went to Mexico and watch the Mexican national team play. On to more important things, this trip is not cheap you would have to pay a good amount of money. Seeing as though there is not a direct flight to Cozumel I would have to take two planes, one from Boston to Chicago then from Chicago to Cozumel. The Flight from Boston to Chicago is $376, from Chicago to Cozumel is $466. This is not cheap in any way almost having to pay a grand before even getting to Cozumel. The hotel I would stay at for 3 days would be the Park Royal Cozumel, where its $86 dollars nightly, they feed you and its rated a 9.0 on a scale of 10. On top of these costs I would would have to bring safe money just in case I get into any trouble or if something went wrong. So the total cost of my trip would be a total of $1,400, so I need to start saving up now. :0

My Dream Vacation

The Bahamas

My dream vacation has always been to go somewhere beautiful. I think my prayers were answered just a couple weeks ago when my grandpa asked me if I wanted to go on a cruise this summer. He told me he was planning a cruise to the bahamas with his girlfriend and asked if I would like to come along with my cousin. Lets just say I booked my room that night! Come June I will be in the bahamas on an amazing cruise with my family, I could not be any more excited! To get ready for my trip I browsed upon this website about the bahamas that let me explore all the islands, find things to do, and get a good package!

Who doesn't love going on vacations? This is a time away from all the problems, stress and worries you left back home. Everyone needs time to relax and just enjoy life. I know the perfect place to do this! Why not spend a week in Jamaica, where the water is clear and everyday is a hot beautiful day.

Jamaica is a mountainous island that is known for its natural beauty.  It is also know for its philosophy “Don’t worry, be happy.” When visiting Jamaica you will find that there is always something to do. From just walking along the shoreline of the beach to rafting the rain forest, feed the birds of the island, take a glass boat ride and even listen to voodoo legends. There are also main attractions like Montego Bay, where you can climb the falls and at night see the glow of the lagoon. One of the main things that I would like to experience if I was to ever visit Jamaica is swim with Dolphins. I love dolphins and it has always been my dream to be able to swim with them. These events cost can vary but I do think that everything is worth the money. It is an experience that you will always have for the rest of your life.

With all this excitement and relaxation of vacations comes the stress of money and the cost for things. If really interested there are places to get deals for such an expensive trip. I chose to see what deals Hot Wire would be able to provide to me for a plane and hotel. When looking at prices I found that $343.80 round trip is the best deal from Hartford, CT to Kingston, JA. This flight would layover in Cleveland both times. The flight is not a very long flight. When the flight is done and ready t is time to find the best hotel to stay at and while looking at Hot Wire I found that Beach house Villas hotel housing is available for $58 a night. These are the best deals that I was able to find but I am sure that even better ones can be found too. So why not take a vacation? At the end you it will all be worth it!

My dream vacation would be going to Orocovis Peurto Rico. It is beautify there and since I have family there I would not have to pay for a place to stay. Orocovis is known as the mountains. While in Orocovis I would like to go on the Zip line.

The Zip line is 600 feet off the ground they start at 800 feet long. There are eight different zip lines and the price for this day trip is between $65-$100.

I would also like to go hiking at the Dona Juana Waterfall it is so beautiful there and It would be a great experience.

As well as going to the beach for the day and hanging out by the water. It would roughly cost between $160-$350 for a round trip.

If I could go anywhere for vacation it would have to be far away from Connecticut or the New England area. The weather here is ridiculous compared to other places. I would have to vacation in Florida. If I could go vacation I would go to Key West, Florida. It is such a beautiful place and great for summer times. If my family decided to move down there I would have no problem with that.

To travel there from Connecticut and back, the air fare and hotel fee for eight nights would be about $2,300.00. For those eight nights I would never be bored. There will always be something to do while I am out there. I could visit FORTZACHARYSTATE PARK which is found to be the best beach in Key West. After a long day at the beach I could stop at ANGELINA'S PIZZARIA which happens to be a very entertaining pizzeria. During the day, if I didn’t want to go to the beach or if I wanted to visit places I could visit MALLORYSQUARE. Mallory Square is where vendors set up shop for customers and pedestrians. Mallory Square is also a great place for a little entertainment.

There is a list of things to do in Key West. For sports, I could go to Key West Golf Club & Key Colony Beach Golf & Tennis. For girls there is Bikram Yoga Key West and Key West Yoga Sanctuary. For performances you can visit Key West Burlesque Theater, Key West Burlesque Theater, The Cabaret At La Te Da, and Red Barn Theatre. For the best professional theatre in Florida you can visit the Waterfront Playhouse.

Key West is mostly attractive for their Museums. There are about 19 museums in Key West. Not only can you have fun down there but you can also learn something while you are there. This is a great place for tourist. There are many clubs and bars, spas, sightseeing places, farms, etc. No matter what time of the day it is you can find something to do. There are not a lot of states that are like this. Going to Key West, Florida would be my dream vacation.

Machu Picchu

Finding a perfect vacation is not an easy thing for me to do. I do not enjoy the traditional vacation to a big city area. I want to go somewhere far away that I will only have a chance to visit once. A place with great scenery and breathtaking views works best for me. Machu Picchu, Peru is a destination that meets all my requirements in a perfect vacation spot. It is very hard to travel there because of restrictions the Peruvian government have levied against tourism. To make best of your time here are a few tips that anyone considering traveling to Machu Picchu should know:

1.) Make sure to have plenty of reading material handy. Buy pamphlets, guidebooks, and magazines having to do with where the best places in Machu Picchu are located. Remember also to buy the most recent material because they are updated frequently.

2.) The only way to purchase tickets to visit Machu Picchu is at the IPERU Booths in Peru's airports. They can be purchased online but it is a very unreliable way. Having a back up plan is a must, plan out other places to visit if you are unable to get ahold of tickets.

Traveling to Peru can be very expensive and only those who truly want to visit should consider going. Tickets  getting into Machu Picchu itself usually sell for $80.00 while an airline ticket getting to Peru will run you about  $1000. If you are interested in purchasing a package deal for airline tickets and a stay at a hotel you can expect to spend around $1400. For anyone who wants to visit Peru but is not interested in seeing Machu Picchu here are some other tourist attractions:

  • Arequipa City
  • Chiclayo
  • Iquitos
  • Lake Titicaca
  • Lima
  • Nazca
  • Paracas
  • Tambopata
  • Trujillo

Machu Picchu is a breathtaking place that any adventurous person should put on their bucket list. It is an almost magical place located against one of the beautiful backdrops in the world. There are many wonderful vacation spots but none can give you the same experience that Machu Picchu can. Take a chance and see something amazing by taking a trip to Peru.

Dream Vacation

Alaska the final frontier. The beautiful out doors man paradise where the sun shines and the fishing never stops. During the summer there are 23 hours of daylight a day, and the weather is beautiful and there is a countless array of wild flowers in full bloom. The amount of time you can take exploring all of the water ways and following streams to find some of the best fishing in the world, and the number one destination for salmon fishing. The Northern Lights are one of the most beautiful sights in the entire world. The First time I watched the movie Balto and saw the Northern Lights it has been on my list of things to see. The cost of the flight out of Bradley International air is about 743.00 dollars for a flight with no layovers.http://www.cheapoair.com/Default.aspx?tabid=1685&sid=1&oa=BDL&da=ANC&adt=1&chd=0&snr=0&infl=0&infs=0&dd=04-25-2013&rd=05-04-2013&tt=ROUNDTR
For a five night stay at the Hideaway Cove Wilderness Lodge it is 1,399 dollars for a five night stay, with fishing, hunting, kayaking, and taking a float plane to see some of the most beautiful views in all of Alaska, and the world. Alaska is one of the last places on Earth that is barely touched by the modern world, the water may be ice cold but the views on the top of a mountain. The sunrise is said to be one of wonder if witnessed on the open ocean, I made my dad a promise that one day he and I will spend two weeks, just him and myself will, and that is why one day this will be our dream vacation. People I have talked to that have been there in the summer say it is a place that should be on everyone's bucket list and right now it's on the top of mine.
I have read so many reviews and they all sell Alaska as the final frontier and most beautiful land in the entire United States. It's untouched and one of the last places that is. I can't wait to spend this trip with my father.http://www.frommers.com/destinations/alaska/A33648.html

Dream Destination

If i could go on vacation to anywhere, past or present, for a vacation I would choose the Woodstock Music and Art Fair, in Bethel, New York, in 1969. This would be my ultimate dream destination because I love the music from the 1960's. I would love the opportunity to see bands like Santana, The Who, the Grateful Dead, Creedance Clearwater Revival, Joe Cocker, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, and especially, my favorite artist that performed at this festival, Jimi Hendrix.
Jimi Hendrix is one of my favorite artists of all time. His music is just all around great. His guitar play, his vocals and his lyrics all put together makes for amazing music. His performance at the Woodstock Festival is one of the most legendary performances of all time. So to be able to watch that performance live would be a dream come true for me. Especially to see and hear his rendition of the Star Spangled Banner would be a big time highlight of my life.
The dream to go to Woodstock is more than just about the music for me. Its about the environment, everyone at the Woodstock Festival seemed like a good person. Maybe it was because everyone was on a bunch of different drugs, but it seems like everyone would just be nice and laid back and it would be a fun place to be because of that.
Now, when it comes to the cost of getting there I can’t even begin to speculate about that. First I, or more likely some scientist, would have to invent time travel. I would imagine that would cost millions and millions, if not billions, of dollars to do this. I personally do not have that kind of money to make this happen, so I guess it’s just a waiting and hoping game. But say they do invent time travel sometime in my lifetime, it would cost around $10 in gas to get from my house to the festival. The ticket to the festival would cost $24 for all three days of music and festivities, which is an unbelievable deal. So if I were alive back then I would have only had to pay around $34 dollars total to go to this legendary festival.
So, if I could go anywhere, at any time in history, I would pick Woodstock Music and Art Fair in 1969. It would not only be an amazing musical experience, but the most incredible social gathering I’ve ever been a part of. And that is why I would love to be there.

Dream Vacation

My Dream Vacation

Many many times in my life, starting when I was 3, I have gone to Disney World in Orlando, Florida. This is my absolute favorite place in the entire world.
Although I've gone here at least 25 times, I could never
get enough. This is my dream vacation spot. Some people think that going on a trip to Disney World is out of their price range, but there are plenty of times during the year when it is not to expensive to take a trip. My family and I usually go in January, since this is one of the least busiest and least expensive times. There are millions of things to do in Disney World and every time you go there is something new or different. To check out some things to do while at Disney World, click on the following link to their website: https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/
If I were to go by myself (which would be no fun at
all) it would cost $104 a night, so if I stayed for five nights it would cost me $520, plus the cost of a plane ticket or gas (because I've never been in an airplane and I really don't ever want to be). I would also have to pay for a ticket, which for six days would be $300. The only other money that I would need would be for food and whatever souvenirs I would want to buy while on my trip. This is not an expensive vacation at all when you take into account all that there is to do at Walt Disney World. There are 4 theme parks that are packed full of rides and entertainment, two waterparks, and a huge shopping center called Downtown Disney which contains an interactive theme park where you can play tons of arcade games and even build and ride your own virtual roller coaster! While I was on my dream vacation to Disney World, I would try to do everything that I could! I would go on all the rides that I could and see all the shows and go to the waterparks and just have loads of fun because you cannot go to Disney World without having fun!!! Although people always tell me that I'm "too old" for Disney World, I will hopefully keep going until the day I die. This is my Dream Vacation.

Punta Cana

Imagine all the stress gone for a week or two.  No phone calls, no distractions or aggravations, nothing to do but just sit on the beach and massages. Nothing but relaxation and being pampered.  Being in Punta Cana is my number one dream vacation.  The island has gorgeous beaches; white sand, with crystal blue ocean water.  The scenery is exquisite with the turquoise sky, beautiful palm trees.  On my vacation I would definitely snorkel, take a dune buggy adventure around the island, zip line through the canopies of the forests, cave exploring, swim with dolphins, hang glide, lay out on the beach, and be pampered with facials and massages.

If I were ever to vacation here, I would make it a long two week vacation.  Hotel Eden Roc at Cap Cana is where I would definitely stay.  To stay in a suite with a king size bed, private infinite pool, and lounge bed on the patio would cost $1,126.40 for two weeks.  The resort has its own classy restaurants, La Cava, Mediterraneo Restaurant, Gastronomico Restaurant, Blue Lagoon Pool Bar, La Palapa.  It even has its own spa, Solaya Spa.  They use native healing philosophies, and contemporary technologies to soothe, nurture, and energize your body.  Flying out of Logan Airport in Boston, Massachusetts on a direct flight to Punta Cana International would take seven hours and eighteen minutes, costing $912.50.  It would definitely be a costly vacation, which I, or anyone else interested in this vacation, would have to save up for quite awhile but it would be worth it.
Walking on the beaches of Punta Cana would be absolutely amazing.  Having the sun shine beam down on your skin, the white sand between your toes, and the one you love or even your best friend by your side; what could get better than that?  I don't think anything.  Laying out everyday, with a drink in your hand, reading a book or listening to music could make you forget about all the negativity and stress back at home.  If I ever get the chance to take this vacation, even if it isn't for two long weeks, I would most definitely take the opportunity!

My Dream Vacation

My Dream Vacation. I always wanted to go to Venice .I think Venice is the most beautiful place in the world. It is fascinating to see a city surrounded by water, all the boats passing by the sides of a lot of buildings and restaurants. I always had a question: how deep is the water? and Are there any sharks? I always wanted to see a map of Venice. If I had a choice to live in a place for ever it would be Venice. Venice is the most romantic place with couples perfect for honey moons and a perfect dream vacation. I always had dreams of living in Venice and are the best dreams ever.

I always see a lot of movie's that the best scenes are filmed on Venice like James Bond, I liked that movie just because it took a large part of it in Venice. It is awesome just go outside and see a lot of buildings, stores, restaurants and houses surrounded by water. I am fascinating with living next to water and transport by bouts or any water vessels I think cars are boring.
I think Venice is the most beautiful exotic place before Puerto Rico. I can't wait to get married just for my honeymoon to be in Venice. I hope time passes fast for that day to come.
